A Confluence of Worlds and Emotions

It took me almost a year, but I finally finished Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

I enjoyed the ending – and somehow managed to leave it unspoiled by dodging ending write-ups for the past year.

I’m glad I did. It made the experience much richer. I wasn’t exactly sure what was going to happen or how it was going to end. I was second-guessing right until the credits.

A confluence of worlds and emotions…

What is real? What is imagined?

Does the desire to change things even matter?

What I particularly liked about the way this played out is the game makes the player experience the same thing Cloud experienced in the original.

That dissonance, that feeling of…

“I’m positive it went this way, that’s how I remember it…”

And in our case…

“I know this story, it’s supposed to go this way…:

Kind of like the truth of fact, the truth of feeling.

And then in the end, you’re right there. It’s that close.

It’s so close you can see it. You can touch it.

All that, and it’s still just out of reach.

The experience so far reminds me of the ending of Twin Peaks: The Return – something I am still thinking about.
